When Can You Get Benefits?

You can claim a divorced-spousal benefit as early as age 62, regardless of whether the principal beneficiary is receiving benefits--provided the principal beneficiary is at least 62 years old. However, you maximize your benefit by taking it at your full retirement age, presently 66 for most people.
